2/22

Exactly one month after Yordano Ventura’s death, the sorrow was balanced by jubilance as the USA won the World Baseball Classic championship, beating Puerto Rico 8-0 behind six no-hit innings from Marcus Stroman.

The Cubs held their World Series ring ceremony. For the first time in over a century, the Northsiders got to raise a World Series Championship banner at Wrigley Field.

6/3

The 600th career home run of the great Albert Pujols came on a 1-2 slider from Ervin Santana that was deposited into the left-field seats. Pujols is only the 9th player in history to reach that milestone.

7/30

With a double to left field, Adrian Beltre became the 31st player to join the 3,000 hit club. Albert Pujols will look to join him next year, just 32 hits away.

9/15

Having already set an American League record, the Cleveland Indians won what was to be the last game of their 22-game winning streak. Down to their last strike in the 9th, Francisco Lindor doubled-home the tying run and Jay Bruce walked the game off in the 10th with a double down the right-field line.

9/21

Chris Sale reached 300 strikeouts for the season, only the 35th time it’s ever happened. During the season, Sale had eight consecutive starts recording double-digit strikeouts, one short of a modern-era record.

11/13

Nine-time All-Star Carlos Beltran announced his retirement after a twenty-year career. The future Hall of Famer went out on top, a World Series champion. The only question is, which cap will he be wearing in Cooperstown?

11/15

Max Scherzer and Corey Kluber won the Cy Young Awards. Each led their league in WHIP, lowest BAA, OPS, and Average Game Score (a measure of average quality per start).
